Thought leadership strategy

Derek Blair, Partner

For many new consultants, the phrase ‘thought leadership strategy’ sounds like a complicated corporate exercise they were glad to leave behind.

When you escape a large organisation to set up on your own, you’re suddenly faced with a new challenge. You’re an expert in your craft, but now you’re also expected to be a marketer, a salesperson, and a ‘thought leader’. It can feel like you need a complex plan before you can even start.

The corporate world tells you to build a strategy. I suggest you simply start a conversation.

This is the antidote to the corporate complexity you escaped. It’s about sharing what you already know, from your unique point of view, consistently. It’s the digital equivalent of digging two stones out of the field each day. Small acts of sharing your perspective that, over time, clear a path for the right people to find you.

This isn’t about becoming an influencer chasing likes. It’s about being a guide earning trust. By sharing your journey and your insights, you become a familiar, helpful voice for the clients you are best placed to serve.

For those of you who have made that leap, how did you find the confidence to start sharing your own point of view?
